At its 16 April sitting, the сommittee recognized the draft Law of Ukraine (bill No.2654) “On amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine (concerning harsher security of telecommunications networks)” as non-corruption risks bearing. The bill is designed to prevent damage to or destruction of telecommunications networks that might cause violating the integrity of telecommunication facilities and detriment to owners of such facilities.
It was also announced, that the committee would hold on April 17 a videoconference with the leadership of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention.
The сommittee asked the Central Election Commission to outline a list of problematic issues that could potentially arise with regard to the planning/scheduling, preparing and holding of the October 2020 local elections and submit this list to the committee for study.
The committee's scope of activities comprises, inter alia, the legislative support to organizing and holding elections and referenda; as well as the legal status of the Central Election Commission.
In accordance with Article 141 of the Constitution of Ukraine, on October 25, 2020 there will be held regular regional executive elections. The World Health Organization has declared a worldwide pandemic of the coronavirus and the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus in Ukraine, while the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has additionally introduced a number of restrictive measures to prevent the said spread.
In view of the above, the committee is deeply concerned about the state of play in preparations for the said October local elections. The committee has also requested that the Central Election Commission submit the committee a draft work schedule of the elections preliminaries by April 24, 2020.
