Mykola Tomenko: the State and not the Local Business should preserve the Monuments of the Culture.
On 18th of March 2008 the Vice-Cgairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine together with the people´s Deputies Iryna Gerashchenko, Ganna German and Mykhailo Kosiv have registered in the Parliament the Bill of the Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine "On Preserving of the Monuments of Culture Inheritance of the Castle "Palanok" (in town Mukacheve of Zakarpattia Region).
The aim is the regulation of the legislative control for the castle and concession of the status of state historical and cultural reserve to it according to the Law of Ukraine "On Protection of Historical and Architectural Inheritance".
According to the Bill it is recommended that the Prosecuting Magistracy of Ukraine investigate the legitimacy of the decisions of the Mukacheve City Council decisions concerning the transference of the "Palanok" to the communal property and to take every measure of the prosecutorial actions. The Cabinet of Ministers should transfer the castle to the authority of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine.
The decision of Mukacheve City Council regarding the loan of the castle has been drawing a wide reaction in the mass media and among the specialists on cultural inheritance.
