Mykola Tomenko: name of Vasyl Stus should be protected in Kyiv

 

Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appealed to the General Prosecuting Magistracy of Ukraine on the fact of demolition by unknown people of public garden named after Vasyl Stus during one night in Kyiv (Peremoga Avenue, 119)

It is informed by the mass media that in capital public garden named after Vasyl Stus by malefactors were destroyed more than 100 trees, among which are pine trees and oaks aged more than 100 years. The public garden was created 2 years ago on the initiative of the Kyiv society on the place where in 60-70 years of 20th century the poet lived with wife and son. It was recently informed by the mass media that on initiative of Kyiv City Administration the area was privatized and the owners are going to built on the place entertaining center next in turn previously destroying trees.

"For me the position of the politicians who were debating on national channels on the importance of the protecting of Vasyl Stus name in Donetsk but who are not going to protect his name in Kyiv id odd", - Vice-Chairman declared.

M. Tomenko emphasized that it would be fair to protect Vasyl Stus´ name through all the territory of Ukraine.
