The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk offered his assurances that Ukraine’s course towards NATO membership would remain unwavering.

He came out with that statement at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, as taking part in the recent meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Inter-parliamentary Council (UNIC).

The said meeting did center its attention upon deeper cooperation between the military of Ukraine and NATO in the Black Sea and Eastern Mediterranean regions.  Meanwhile, according to Ruslan Stefanchuk, a key priority in cooperating with the Alliance is – for Ukraine – acceding to the NATO Enhanced Opportunity Programme (EOP). Additionally, there was stressed the need to revive the issue of extending the Membership Action Plan programme for Ukraine. The first vice speaker called on to recognize de jure what is being done by Ukraine de facto.

He also then assured members of the council that the parliament of Ukraine would continue to support legislative initiatives aimed at raising the level of security and defence of our state.

At the end of the meeting, Ruslan Stefanchuk formally announced the official invitation to visit the 2020 NATO PA Spring Session to be held on 22 to 25 May 2020 in Kyiv, Ukraine.
