The Bill (Reg. No.2785) legally enhances the form of patronage as a type of custody over the orphans and children deprived of parental care.
The Family Code of Ukraine envisages the said form, but it is not used due to the lack of legislative regulation. The Bill defines the concept of patronage family, the procedure of its creation and functioning, the status of a patronage educator and wards of a patronage family.
The Committee members deem necessary to preserve the current system of upbringing the orphans and children deprived of parental care, and develop patronage as an independent system of children education. Such a form can be considered as a temporary residence of children in citizens´ families for the period up to 6 months. Patronage can be used in cases when children have been deprived of parental care for some reason, or if a child lives in socially dangerous conditions.
