“We are well primed to constructive cooperation with the Venice Commission,” -- Dmytro Razumkov
During his working visit to the Council of Europe, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov met with the Chairman of the Venice Commission (VC) Gianni Buquicchio to discuss prospects of mutual co-operation.
"I would like to thank the Commission for its continued support to the development and reforms that take place in Ukraine, and for helping in harmonizing Ukrainian legislation with EU standards," the Ukrainian politician stated.
The speaker also thanked the whole Venice Commission for its steadfast position on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and expressed his hope that this principled position would continue to be maintained.
“We are very respectful and very considerate towards any recommendations against the situation in the East of Ukraine. I do understand that some pieces of legislation will be criticized, some will be supported, but it is also well known that the truth sprouts through discussion - that is why we are primed to constructive cooperation with the Venice Commission and other concerned organizations,” Dmytro Razumkov assured.
He also stressed that the situations in the Donbas and the Crimea are somewhat different, so the approaches to be used for solving the problems might vary.
In his turn, the Chairman of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio noted that the Commission is still a good friend to Ukraine. "You can count upon us," the politician convinced at the end of his speech.
