AN EXTRAORDINARY PLENARY MEETING OF THE THIRD SESSION OF THE VERKHOVNA RADA OF UKRAINE WAS HELD ON MONDAY, 26 JANUARY
Having opened the plenary meeting, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, informed the People´s Deputies about the death of Valeriy Bukayev, People´s Deputy of Ukraine, who died on 25 January, being 33 years old.
The People´s Deputies of Ukraine observed a minute of silence in tribute to the memory of their colleague.
The Chairman stated that on 22 January, he was addressed by 155 People´s Deputies from the BYuT Faction with a request to hold an extraordinary plenary meeting to scrutinize the issue concerning a report of the Head of the National Bank, dismissal of Stelmakh V.S., Head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Shapovalov A.V., Deputy Head of the National Bank of Ukraine, and appointment of an acting Head of the National Bank of Ukraine.
Anatoliy Shapovalov, acting Head of the National Bank of Ukraine, reported on the activity of the National Bank of Ukraine for the last couple of months. A.Shapovalov dwelled upon the current processes in economy and at the monetary and credit market.
Mykola Azarov, Chairman of the Committee on Finance and Banking, commented upon the reasons of recessionary conditions in the monetary and credit sector.
Yuriy Polunieyev, Head of the Temporary Inquiry Panel set up to investigate the activity of the National Bank of Ukraine in the period of the financial crisis, announced that the Panel continued scrutinizing the materials concerning activity of the National Bank of Ukraine.
The Verkhovna Rada passed a Resolution "On Responsibility of Yushchenko V.A., President of Ukraine, for the Situation in the Financial and Credit Sector of Ukraine" (227 votes).
The People´s Deputies also passed a Resolution "On Activity of the National Bank of Ukraine in the Period of the Financial Crisis, and Implementation of Corresponding Resolutions of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine" (226 votes).
Then the extraordinary plenary meeting was closed.
On 27-30 January, the People´s Deputies work with the electors.
The next plenary meeting of The Verkhovna Rada will be held on Tuesday, 3 February.
