The bill envisaged the amendments to the current laws according to which the citizen might be elected as a People´s Deputy of Ukraine (Reg.№2561) or the Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the autonomous Republic of Crimea or to the local, village or city mayor (№2544) with the condition to know and speak the state language.
The Committee heard the speech delivered by te Chairman of the Sub-Committee on the Elective System of Laws, S. Podgorniy.
Concerning the language, according to the Constitution, speaking and knowledge on the state language is compulsory for the President of Ukraine, judges, judges of the Constitutional court of Ukraine.
Regulatory and legal and laws are adopted on the Basis of the Constitution and should not contradict with it. Consequently, the Committee resolved to appeal to the author of the Bills, Yu. Gnatkevych in order to recall the suggested Bills as they contradict with the Constitution of Ukraine and supply as exchange for scrutinizing the Laws "On the Status of the people´s Deputy of Ukraine" and "On the Status of the Deputies of the Local Councils".
