On Friday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, took part in the ceremony of celebration of the 65th anniversary of Korsun-Shevchenkivska Battle.

In his speech at the grand assembly in Korsun-Shevchenkivsky, V.Lytvyn referred to the 65th anniversary of the battle as the date "that should become an event for all the countries of former USSR, not only Cherkasy region".

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dispraised the practice of rewriting the history fro the sake of political and personal tastes. He deems necessary "to cease the willingness to rewrite the history, alter the Constitution, adapt the Laws to the political situation".

He believes that memory is "a basis that enables a person, a family, the society, and the states to stand firmly and have prospects". V.Lytvyn called for preservation, documental fixation of "reminiscences and stories, memory of glorious events". He supposes that such memory will become "an impetus for the development of Ukraine".

"We should exert every effort for The Verkhovna Rada to cease arguments and start work, so that we could guarantee that Ukraine will develop for a year at least, and that Ukrainian authorities will not hamper the national security", believes V.Lytvyn.
