Volodymyr Lytvyn, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has held the Meeting on Wednesday with the President of European Parliament, Hans Gert Poettering, during the Working Visit to the Brussels
The main signal, that the Ukrainian delegation at the head V. Lytvyn was trying to inform of during two-days visit to Brussels was that the Ukraine is sure to develop in a democratic way.
V. Lytvyn declared that he would do everything possible to reorganize the Ukrainian Parliament into the center of the political life in Ukraine. According to him, the main qualities of the Ukrainian Parliament were revealed during the crisis that the whole world faced in Autumn 2004. "I would dare to proclaim that during that period, the Verkhovna Rada has demonstrated the model of responsibility", - he declared.
"Not less important task is to spend the time that is left for the President´s elections in stability allowing no violation with the constitution and Laws", - the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine proclaimed. Under such conditions Ukrainian society will regard the visit of the President of European Parliament to Ukraine as the support of democracy.
On his part, H.-G. Poettering mentioned that he was going "to visit Moscow and before it definitely Kyiv".
The parties paid considerable attention to Ukrainian and Russian relations, the same as o the relations of Russia and EU. Concerning the issue, the President of the European Parliament declared that the following relations should be conducted on the basis of mutual respect and cooperation in order to avoid the domination of one of the parties. "Still it is early to talk about the membership of Ukraine in EU but I can assure that we will support you on this path", - he emphasized.
The same day the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has meet the Vice-President of European Parliament Marek Sivec and the Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on International Affairs - Yatsek Sariush- Volsky
