V.Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, declares the Possibility of holding a Referendum concerning Abolition of Proportional Elections at the Local Level

V.Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, declares the possibility of holding a referendum concerning abolition of proportional elections at the local level.

Answering the journalists´ questions in the course of events in Fastiv dedicated to the 20th anniversary of withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, V.Lytvyn stressed that he "supports holding of elections due to majority system at all the levels".   

 

V.Lytvyn stated that "initiative groups will be set up, and collection of signatures will be held, so that a referendum on abolition of proportional elections could be conducted in case the proposal is not endorsed legislatively". 

 

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supposes that the possibility of holding simultaneous elections of the President and The Verkhovna Rada depends on further situation in Ukraine.

 

He also deems necessary to refuse from the "quota principle" by appointment to the high-ranking posts, and believes that people should be chosedn due to professional qualification.
