Volodymyr Lytvyn met Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, during the working visit.

 

During the meeting the Parties scrutinized a number of issues on economic cooperation.

 

V. Putin showed the ways out in the present complicated situation, regarding the debts of Ukraine to "Gasprom".

 

The Chairman of the Russian Federation Government explained that the telephone conversation between V. Putin and the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, took place that day. The conversation concerned the debts of Ukraine for natural gas and possible prices for natural gas for the year 2009.

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, V. Lytvyn expressed his hopes the executive bodies of both countries would settle the problematic issue in the natural gas sphere so that Ukrainian people "will celebrate New Year with optimism".

 

V. Lytvyn declared that as the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, he will try his best to promote the bilateral parliamentary cooperation in all the spheres.

 

During the meeting the Parties stressed on the importance of solving the problems caused by the economic crisis.

 

V. Putin and V. Lytvyn both wished Happy New Year holidays for Ukraine and Russia and expressed confidence in further cooperation of the countries in the next year.
