The Committee on Environmental Policy, Use of Natural Resources and Elimination of Consequences of Chornobyl Disaster recommends that the Parliament declines the Bill "On Moratoriun on Final Harvest and Export of Wood and Carving Wood"

26 November 2008, 16:25

The Bill (Reg. No.3035) imposes a 10-year moratorium on felling and export of wood. Moreover, all subjects of entrepreneurship in the non-public form of ownership are prohibited to harvest at stumps in Ukrainian forests.

However, the Committee members stated that the Bill failed to include financial and economic argumentation and assessment of social consequences of its implementation. According to the conclusion of the Cabinet of Ministers, implementation of the Law will inflict losses on the State Budget for 475 million UAH, result in extra expenditures for financing of forestry for 600 million UAH, and cause reduction of production units for 2,6 thousand.
