The Committee on European Integration recommends that the Parliament ratifies the Additional Protocol of the Memorandum of Mutual Understanding between the Government of Ukraine and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on the Appointment of NATO Liaison Officers in Ukraine

18 November 2008, 12:45

The Bill (Reg. No. 0102) envisages ratification of the Additional Protocol to the Memorandum, pursuant to which "Status of the Officers will be determined in a separate document to be considered as a part of the Memorandum". According to the Memorandum, "the NATO appoints two Liaison Officers in Ukraine in order to facilitate participation of Ukraine in all events related to cooperation within the scope of the Program "Partnership for Peace" and consolidation of cooperation between Ukraine and the NATO".

Thus, in accordance with the Additional Protocol, the NATO Liaison Officers and members of their families will enjoy all privileges, immunities and assistance to the extent these are usually granted to officers of the diplomatic missions accredited in Ukraine and members of their families in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.
