Members of the Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement met the Representatives of the Council of Europe

Viktor Shvets, Committee Chairman, met Danuta Wisniewska-Cazals, Head of Unit at the Council of Europe (Directorate General of Legal Affairs) and Bruno Romazzotti, Expert of the Council of Europe, to discuss the Project on Strengthening and Protecting Women‘s and Children‘s Rights in Ukraine.

 

The Project aims at defining and enhancing responsibility of legislation and practice in the area of gender equality and children´s rights in Ukraine, and promotion of prevention of children´s sexual exploitation and abuse of children in compliance with the Social Charter, the Council of Europe Convention on Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation and other relevant European and international documents. 

 

Viktor Shvets, Committee Chairman, informed the representatives of the Council of Europe about the Committee´s activities.

 

Mrs. Danuta Wisniewska-Cazals stated that effective implementation of the said Project required foundation of the Steering Committee that should include the representatives of the European Commission, the Council of Europe and other representatives of Ukraine. The Committee should hold regular meetings dedicated to the implementation of the Project and other relevant issues. Mrs. Danuta Wisniewska-Cazals made a suggestion to include the representatives of the Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement into the Steering Committee.

 

The Committee Chairman upheld the introduced motion and suggested certain persons to be included into the Steering Committee. 

 

The First organizational sitting of the Steering Committee is scheduled for 4 December 2008.
