Mykola Tomenko: "Every country should take into account national specificity while looking for methods of overcoming the crisis".
Within the scope of the working visit to the Republic of Moldova, Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, participated in the 32nd General Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Parliamentary Assembly.
Mykola Tomenko delivered a speech within the scope of discussion on the subject: "Globalization and Preservation of National Identity in the Countries of Black Sea Economic Cooperation", and stated that topicality of the problem in question was called forth by the current situation in the world.
"It is apparent that one should take into account not only the global financial crisis, but also the crisis of beliefs concerning the so-called "western" values that have been regarded as a standard for imitation until quite recently. Free market, liberal rules of unlimited trade and other so-called values of the western world are meant here", - stated the Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Mykola Tomenko supposes that under such conditions, it is necessary to revise the function and significance of international organizations that fail to cope with institutes that should secure optimal recovery from the recession.
He believes that various "regional" institutions, such as Black Sea Economic Cooperation Parliamentary Assembly should assume more importance in correlation between the global and the national.
Dwelling upon the national identity, Mykola Tomenko emphasized that Ukraine and other countries focused on preservation of national identity not due to the reversion to historical traditions, but due to the progress accompanied by historical traditions and national idea.
