The meeting was held together with the public social-politic organization "National Assembly of Disabled of Ukraine" and UNO Mission in Ukraine according to the Resolution adopted by the UNO General Assembly 61/106 and 63/183.
The People´s Deputies, representatives of the President Secretariat, Cabinet of Ministers, profile ministries and departments, international institutions, state organizations of foreign countries, Ukrainian and foreign leaders of non-governmental organizations of disabled took part in the conference.
During the Conference the exchange of experience regarding the development and implementation of national strategies and plans as to the implementation of the Convention Principles were discussed.
The members of the Conference declared that on 13th of December 2006 UNO General Assembly has adopted the first in the XXI century UNO Convention on human rights UNO Convention on rights of disabled. The given Convention was opened for the signing on 30th of March 2007.
National Assembly of Disabled of Ukraine initiated "whole Ukrainian campaign on lobbying of the signing and ratification UNO Convention on disabled rights by Ukraine."
It was also stressed that National Assembly of disabled of Ukraine has signed on 13th of December 2007 the Memorandum on mutual understanding and cooperation in the sphere of disabled rights protection; assistance regarding their social integration; the increase of the level of public informing on the disabled problems and also unification of efforts in order to sign the Convention by Ukraine.
It was informed during the conference that according to the agreement the number of events were initiated during years 2007-2008 and also Convention was translated into Ukrainian and it was printed in Braille script for the blind citizens.
Moreover during the hearings that were conducted in The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on the Matters of Pensioners, Veterans and the Disabled "Abidance of Human Rights with Disablement I Ukraine" the results of the analysis of Ukrainian Law regarding the correspondence to the UNO Convention principles were presented.
During the Conference it was stressed that the National Assembly of Disabled of Ukraine together with the UNO Mission in Ukraine prepared and edited "Handout for the Parliamentarian according UNO Convention on the Disabled Rights", that was elaborated by the Department on the Economic and Social Matters (UN-DESA), the UNO High Commissioner´s Department on the Human Rights (OHCHR) and Interparliamentary Union (IPU). Also the Collection "The UNO Convebtion on Disabled Rights for Children".
The attention was stressed on the fact that Ukraine on24th of September 2008 in UNO headquarter in New-York has signed the UNO Convention on the disabled rights and Facultative Report to it. It was declared that the signing of the Convention and its Facultative Report is sure to facilitate the improvement of the situation of millions of Ukrainian with the disablement in Ukraine.
