I.Herashchenko values highly Ukraine’s contribution to recent NATO PA session in Halifax

Iryna Herashchenko highly commended the work of the Ukrainian delegation at the 64th Annual Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Halifax, Canada
She gave a brief report on the delegation’s contribution to the session’s outcome from the floor.
Relevant information on Russia’s threats to Ukraine was delivered by the Ukrainian delegates as they spoke all through the session’s duration.
According to I. Herashchenko, the Ukrainians urged to factor into a range of amendments to the resolutions regarding Russian militarization of the occupied Crimea, the deterioration of the security situation around the Sea of Azov and important amendments to the report presented by a British parliamentarian Lord Jopling on countering the hybrid threats Russia poses. Another cluster of amendments pointed at killing the Kremlin’s political project Nord Stream 2 was taken into account as well. Additionally, Ukraine’s international partners were for the umpteenth time called on to extend the burden of sanctions over the Russia’s energy sector. The First Vice-Speaker also informed that owing to the Ukrainian delegates there had been taken significant amendments to the status of territories of Georgia and Ukraine occupied by Russia.
"In order to reinforce collective security, we also called for strengthening the Alliance's presence in the Baltic and Black Sea regions," said I. Herashchenko.
The politician also clued up that the international partners of Ukraine had been presented with a comprehensive report on the criminal activity of Russia-controlled private military companies in Syria and Ukraine. I. Herashchenko thanked a voluntary organization "InformNapalm" and representatives of the SBU for providing information about the notorious PMC Wagner.
She also noted that during the NATO PA session in Halifax, there were discussed not only long-term prospects for Ukraine's membership in NATO, but also substantive steps aimed at attaining a full-fledged membership of our country in the Alliance in the near future.
British Member of Parliament Madeleine Moon was elected Monday as President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, succeeding Rasa Jukneviciene from Lithuania, whose mandate had expired. The new president was then invited by our delegation to participate in the Second Ukrainian Women’s Congress to be held in Ukraine on December 7-8, 2018.
The politician also informed that within the framework of the session there had been held a discussion “Women.Peace.Security”, where Ukrainian women’s important role in restoring Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty was high-lighted.
"In 2020, the next meeting of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly will be held in Ukraine. Dear colleagues, we are gradually, step by step, approaching our common strategic goal - a full-fledged membership in NATO," emphasized Iryna Herashchenko.
