Members of the Standing Delegation of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly held a Press Conference dedicated to the Results of their Participation in the Fourth Part of the PACE Session 2008

The People´s Deputies of Ukraine participated in the work of the Fourth Part of the Session. Thus, members and assistant members of the Standing Delegation of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the Council of Europe actively participated in the plenary meetings of the Assembly, work of profile committees and political groups.  

The agenda of the session included the following issues: "Consequences of the War between Georgia and Russia", "Fulfillment of Obligations and Commitments by Bosnia and Herzegovina",  "Candidates to the European Court of Human Rights", "Situation in Cyprus",  "Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (ОЕСР) and World Economy", "Revision of Formerly Ratified Authorities of the Russian Delegation due to Sound Reasons", "Position of National Minorities of Voevodina and Romanian Ethnical Minority of Serbia", "Combating Violence against Women: towards the Council of Europe Convention".  

Discussion of the situation in Caucasus was regarded as the issue of utmost importance. The Resolution 1633(2008) was adopted due to the results of the discussion.  

Thus, the Resolution declares: "The Parliamentary Assembly is firmly committed to the pursuit of peace and the principles embodied in the Statute of the Council of Europe: democracy, human rights and the rule of law, as well as to principles of state sovereignty, the right to territorial integrity and the inviolability of frontiers of states". 

Moreover, the members of the Ukrainian delegation participate in the discussion of the issue concerning combating violence against women. The Assembly adopted a relevant Resolution 1635(2008), in which she appeals to the national parliaments with a request to enhance national legislation in the field of combating violence against women.
