On Friday, the 14th of September, Andriy Parubiy, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Kurt Volker, the United States Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations
At the beginning of the meeting, Andriy Parubiy thanked the United States for supporting Ukraine during the Russian aggression. Also, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada highly appreciated Kurt Volker's personal contribution to the support of Ukraine.
"Ukraine often experiences information and cyber-attacks from Russia. Therefore, in the build-up of the elections, the support and cooperation with the United States of America are very important, with the country which is well aware what Russian cyber-attacks are, and, in particular, the Russian meddling into election processes," stated A.Parubiy.
Kurt Volker pointed out that "security of elections is our common interest, so we are actively cooperating with the Ukrainian authorities and non-governmental organizations to ensure the security of the elections".
The Chairman told the Special Representative about the Verkhovna Rada’s legislative agenda for the current plenary session.
Among the main legislative priorities for the Parliament, the issue of Ukraine’s national security was brought to the limelight.
Andriy Parubiy also underlined that information security is a very important aspect of the national security in its entirety - "because in Ukraine, there is a broad network of so-called mass media guided by the aggressor country that actually act as an instrument of Russian hyper-propaganda".
In his turn, Kurt Volker expressed his understanding of the grave danger from the spread of Russian misinformation.
