"Among the key tasks of the Ukrainian diplomacy there is sending a message of importance of Ukraine's struggle and importance of Ukrainian statehood", -- Andriy Parubiy

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy delivered a speech within the framework of the XIII meeting of Ukraine’s foreign diplomatic missions heads (the 28th of August, 2018, Kyiv).

During the speech, A.Parubiy reminded that 100 years ago Ukraine had lost its independence for three reasons: lack of unity, weakness of its army, and deficiency of international support. "They failed to put on notice of the world the acute need of existence of the Ukrainian state," he said. At the Paris Peace Conference in 1919, there was an appreciable discord in efforts of the two Ukrainian delegations. Through ignorance and lack of awareness and support of the global community that young Ukraine’s sovereignty was brought to failure and defeat.

This time, among the key tasks of Ukraine’s diplomacy one of the most pressing objectives is to convey to the world the importance of Ukraine's strife and the importance of Ukrainian statehood.

A.Parubiy expressed his gratitude to each of the representatives of the diplomatic corps for bringing the information to the diplomatic community in their host countries.

"During the Maidan, I did insist upon creating an anti-Putin coalition, and it was thanks to you that the whole civilized world got united in furtherance of Ukraine's independence," he said, stressing then that "the entire civilized world takes the prolongation of sanctions as an imperative need".

"The sanctions have been extended thanks to our diplomacy’s quotidian painstaking labour that in fact has shown itself on a par with the Ukrainian soldiers who defend the state’s independence in the east of Ukraine," said the politician, adding that "the military and diplomatic fronts are two ones for defending the Ukrainian statehood”.

Emphasizing the importance of obtaining lethal weapons, A. Parubiy pointed out that this is also the result of the diplomats’ efforts. "The mainline direction for Ukraine is Euro-Atlantic one.  We are in need to work thereto in force - henceforth we have attained very significant   results. Javelins are not just weapons - it is a symbol of Ukraine's support".

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada stressed that foreign policy relations should be based on the interests of the Ukrainian state.  In this context, he alluded that they need to highlight the key points correctly - as evidenced by the letter signed by a range of countries against the Nord Stream 2 project.

According to A.Parubiy, the entire machinery of parliamentary diplomacy should act in this direction: "For today, this should be our common answer - both to Ukraine, our region and the whole free world - against one of Putin's very aggressive attempts to build a mechanism of political and energy influence both over Europe and the whole Euro-Atlantic space".

It is strong belief of A. Parubiy that Ukrainian diplomats, as one and undivided Ukrainian diplomatic front, will be in the forefront of strengthening Ukraine’s interest and the Ukrainian state.

"I am confident that we were able to pass the hardest years of our history, the sorest trials that fell upon us.  I am convinced that we will be able to affirm the Ukrainian state in the future as well," said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
