“A matter of utmost importance for Ukraine is cyber-security at present, since there is a serious risk that Russia may use cyber tools to meddle in Ukraine’s elections,” --  Andriy Parubiy in his conversation with Andrea Thompson, the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security

Within the framework of his working visit to the USA, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy met with Andrea Thompson, the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security.

The Ukrainian politician congratulated the US colleague on her appointment to this responsible position, because it is her who will be in charge of Ukraine’s affairs.

Andriy Parubiy then thanked a U.S. Department of State’s representative for providing Ukraine with the lethal weapons, and Javelins, in particular.

A.Parubiy enlarged upon the adoption of the laws of Ukraine on the supreme anti-corruption court and on national security. Andrea Thompson was interested in the further steps of the Ukrainian Parliament aimed to implement a number of draft laws envisaged by the law on national security. According to the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, the work on the said bills has already begun at the core committee.

The parties went in details on the issues of cyber-security, given that, according to the Speaker, "the issue of cyber-security is particularly relevant for Ukraine in the run-up to elections, because there is a great risk that Russia can interfere in the elections by the agency of cyber-attacks".

Andriy Parubiy also spoke about the prospects for the development and construction of the regional security and cooperation between the countries abutting Russia.

Towards the end, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine told A. Thompson about the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine recently established to serve as an effective instrument of cooperation between the countries that have suffered from the Russian aggression.
