Within the framework of his official visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy met with The Right Honourable Julian M.Lewis, the Chair of the Defence Select Committee of the British House of Commons of the Parliament of Great Britain.
At the beginning of the meeting, Andriy Parubiy thanked Julian Lewis for the support of Great Britain, which Ukraine receives “in probably the most difficult times since the restoration of its independence". Particular thanks were uttered for the training programme British proficients have been conducting for Ukrainian servicemen withstanding the Russian aggression in the Donbas.
While talking of the Donbas’s state of play, the Chairman pointed out that “Putin’s plans go far beyond than just taking over some parts of the Donbas, he then needs the whole country, Ukraine in its entirety”. “The Russian beast is itching to stir up turmoil and destabilization in Ukraine,” he stressed.
The Ukrainian Parliament’s Chairperson called on the Chair of the Defence Select Committee and the committeemen to condemn the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline for its being a purely political project meant to oppress the countries of Europe.
“When reinforcing our defences, we should think not only of the military side of security, we henceforth need in an integrated way to fortify our information, economic and, of course, energy security aspects. We should do this together, and the Salisbury nerve agent attack stands for this maxim,” stated Andriy Parubiy.
