During the first and second sessions of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the sixth convocation The Committee on National Security and Defence has scrutinized 128 issues.

During the first and second sessions of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of  The Sixth Convocation The Committee on National Security and Defence  has scrutinized 128 issues. In particular, 17 in order to control the implementation of the laws and resolutions. 34 bills were scrutinized, 5 of which were totally adopted by The Parliament, 4 of which were accepted for the basis, one was rejected. The Committee submitted 137 expert conclusions and other bills.

21 meetings were held by The Committee, in particular 3 exit meetings. The following issues were scrutinized: the implementation of the Program Development of The Internal Forces of  The Ministry  of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, that are planned for the year 2008; on the state and perspectives of  the corvettes building for the Naval Forces of Ukraine; regarding the implementation of  the parliamentary control for the Foreign Intelligence Service activity of Ukraine.

The Members of the Committee paid special attention to the social protection of the members of the armed forces. In particular The People´s Deputies initiated legislative amendments to the regulatory and legal framework regarding the social protection of military personnel and their families.

On People´s Deputies initiative inquiries regarding consideration of the issue concerning the improvement of functioning of the state bodies as regards the protection of kept information including personal data were made to the central bodies of executive power and regional administrations.

Having analyzed the practice of The Constitution and Laws of Ukraine compliance by the state power bodies, the Committee stated: "non-solitary instances of  law violations that are real obstacles for the confirmation and strengthening of  basics for democratic and lawful state, took place". Conveyed disquietude regarding revealed infringements. The Committee addressed The President of Ukraine, The Prime-Minister of Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner in order to take every measure.

The Committee regularly monitors the reformation of  Military organization and law enforcement agencies.

During the second session the Committee hearings "On Energetic Safety of Ukraine: state and perspectives on natural gas provision", "On State and Perspectives of Future Development of defensive-industrial complex of Ukraine" were held.

 The Committee regularly work on letters and applications of citizens, public organizations, local power bodies.

The People´s Deputies Members of The Committee participate actively in international parliamentary organizations; regular delegations of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, interparliamentary assembles; common interparliamentary committees.

Cooperation with foreign countries is considered to be an important direction in Committee´s activity. During this time 20 international meetings were held.

During intersession period 30 bills and resolutions are to be scrutinized by the Committee.
