At its Exit Meeting in Yevpatoria, the Committee on Environmental Policy, Use of Natural Resources and Elimination of Consequences of Chornobyl Disaster discussed Environmental Conditions of the Coastal Strip and Observance of Environmental Legislation

25 June 2008, 17:43

The Committee members expressed their concern with the condition of a coastal protection strip of the Black Sea Coast in the area of Yevpatoria Ukrainian children´s health resort.

Considerable cutback of the width of a beach strip is observed in the resort area due to the intensification of abrasive processes.

Increase in the number of tourists builds up the pressure on the system of water supply and sewerage. The lack of a proper system fails to facilitate the development of the resort, and can lead to an emergency situation.

The Committee passed a Resolution, pursuant to which, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is to settle the issue concerning  transference of the cargo port from Yevpatoria to some other place till 1 January 2010.

The Committee Resolution includes a number of assignments for the central and local executive bodies regarding improvement of the environmental situation in Yevpatoria Ukrainian children´s health resort.
