Members of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Standing Delegation in the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assenbly held a Press Conference concerning their Participation in the Third Part of the PACE Session in 2008

Ivan Popesku, Head of the Delegation, stated that the Parliamentary Assembly discussed a number of issues, namely: "Struggle against the Damage to the Black Sea Environment", "Women´s Authorities in the Modern Multicultural Society", "The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD): Main Partner in Changes in Transition Economies", "Specific Challenges to the European Democracies: Diversity and Migration", "Actions to improve Democratic Participation of the Migrants", "Prevention of the First Form of Violation against Children: Abdication from a Child by its Birth", etc.

 

I.Popesku dwelled upon participation of the members of the Ukrainian delegation in the work of the PACE Session, its committees and political groups.

 

H.Omelchenko delivered a number of speeches at the Assembly meetings. He dwelled upon the state of democracy in Europe. At the joint sitting of the committees on political issues, migration and population, H.Omelchenko reported on migration policy in our country, and problems entailed by the flow of illegal migration through Ukraine. He called for applying common efforts to control and prevent the said phenomenon.  

 

The Council of Europe deems necessary to enhance the judicial system in Ukraine, and secure independence of judges from the administrative influence.

 

V.Pysarenko, the People´s Deputy of Ukraine, commented on activity of the members of the Ukrainian delegation at the PACE meetings, and expressed his hopes that Ukrainian parliament members will continue efficient activity within the scope of the said European organization.
