The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
Press Secretary of the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
Speech of the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine delivered from the Parliamentary Lectern on Friday, 20 June 2008
I would like to make some conclusions. We act in compliance with the Law, as nobody in this parliamentary hall strives to non-constitutional takeover or seizure of power. Pursuant to the Provisional Standing Orders, extraordinary meeting with relevant agenda will be convened within three days, provided the appeal of 150 People´s Deputies of Ukraine is submitted.
As regards coalition, I would like to emphasize that there are no legal grounds for suspension of the process of formation of a new coalition. However, a relevant resolution of the Factions is to be adopted. In case there is a new Coalition Agreement that complies with the Law, you are welcome to bring it forward, so that a new coalition can be created. Otherwise, we have to wait for the resolution of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.
Today I recommended the leaders of Factions that we scrutinized no political documents, as they were not included into the agenda. However, they failed to uphold the said motion.
I suppose such a situation requires a certain resolution. Our political forces will obtain an opportunity to carry on political consultations. As usual, the Parliament is held as hostage. The problem is not inspired by the People´s Deputies it originated at the level of relations between all the branches of authority.
As the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada, I will protect the Parliament to the utmost.
