The First Meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Seimas of the Lithuanian Republic, the Senat and the Sejm of the Polish Republic was held at The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine

The meeting was attended by the parliamentary delegations of Ukraine, headed by A.Yatseniuk, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Republic of Poland, headed by B. Borysewicz, Sejm Marshal of the Republic of Poland, and Lithuanian Republic, headed by Ceslovas Jursenas, Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas.

 

Viktor Yushchenko, President of Ukraine, addressed to the attendants of the Assembly.

 

Arseniy Yatseniuk, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, greeted the attendants of the Assembly, and stated that "parliamentary Assembly should become an active dialogue and exchange of experience". The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also underscored that "activity of the national parliaments is aimed at coordination of Ukrainian legislation with the requirements of the European Union".  A.Yatseniuk stated that the parliamentary Assembly is open for other democratic parliaments to join.

 

The parliament members from Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania emphasized that activity of the said common parliamentary body will facilitate further development of mutually beneficial Ukrainian-Polish-Lithuanian relations, and promote Euro-integration processes of Ukraine.

 

The participants of the meeting signed the Statute of the Assembly, and adopted trilateral Assembly Declaration. The following Assembly Committees were established: the Committee on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, the Committee on Humanitarian and Cultural Cooperation, the Committee on Regional, Local, and Trade and Economic Cooperation.

 

The participants of the meeting are convinced that the Assembly should become a significant medium for exchange of Polish and Lithuanian experience with Ukraine as regards coordination of legislation with European requirements, legislative support of European integration process, etc.
