The Committee on State Building and Local Self-Government recommends that The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine calls an Extraordinary Election of several Village, Settlement and City Mayors on Sunday, 06 April 2008

At the meeting the Committee scrutinized appeals of several local councils and listened to the report on appeals of local councils concerning early termination of authorities of village, settlement and city mayors, presented by Serhiy Podhorny, Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Election Legislation and Public Associations,.

The Committee members emphasized that, pursuant to Article 85 of the Constitution of Ukraine, Articles 14 and 15 of the Law "On Election of Deputies of The Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Local Councils, and Village, Settlement and City Mayors", The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine calls an extraordinary election of a village, settlement and city mayor, in case of early termination of the authorities of a relevant mayor, on Sunday not later than 70 days till the day of election.

Owing to the said fact, the Committee passed a resolution to recommend that the Parliament calls an extraordinary election on Sunday, 06 April 2008. Serhiy Podhorny, Chairman of the Sub-Committee, is commissioned to report on the said issue at the plenary meeting of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
