While in Washington, the Ukrainian Parliament’s Chairperson is reported to have a series of high level meetings.
The visit
programme comprises, in particular, the ‘handshakes’ with Paul Ryan, Speaker of
the United States House of Representatives, Mac Thornberry,
Chairperson of the Committee on Armed Services of the United States House of Representatives, Adam
Smith, Ranking member of the Committee on Armed Services of the United States House of Representatives, Eliot
Engel, Ranking member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Kevin McCarthy,
Majority Leader of the United States House of Representatives.
A ceremonial welcome under Ukrainian days in the United States Congress devoted to 20-year anniversary of the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus, and a meeting with members of the Senate Ukraine Caucus, are scheduled to take place.
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine takes part in «US-UA Working Group Yearly Summit V: Providing Ukraine with an Annual Report Card», and also meets with John McCain, Chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Armed Services and Jack Reed, Ranking member of the United States Senate Committee on Armed Services.
The parties are going to render homage to the victims of the Ukrainian Holodomor Famine/Genocide of 1932-33.
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrii Parubii: 'For nine years we have not met at a so high level'
The chairperson informed that the forthcoming visit to the United States would span a wide range of issues even beyond the inter-Parliamentary cooperation. ‘This will be, I am convinced, a landmark visit – as we have not made such high-level trips for more than nine years,’ noted he in his answers to Rada TV channel.
The core sitting will be with Paul Ryan, Speaker of the United States
House of Representatives, since it is planned to go far beyond just the
parliamentary interrelation issues. Speeding up of Ukraine’s integration into
the North-Atlantic Alliance, delivering a broader range of security aids, energy
safety and a lot more will surely be touched as well.
Paul Ryan is supposed to be invited in Ukraine soon. ‘Moreover, we have executed a joint letter signed by the parliamentary heads of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine inviting him to trip through the region with occupied areas in order to feel it personally what the Russian aggression stands for,’ said A.Parubii with hopes for a reciprocal visit to Ukraine by Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.
