On Tuesday, 26 February, Arseniy Yatseniuk, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Hans-Gert Pöttering, the President of the European Parliament, in Brussels.
The meeting was held within the scope of a one-day working visit of the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, to Brussels (the Kingdom of Belgium). A.Yatseniuk informed the journalists that the Parties discussed the issues concerning parliamentary cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union, and dwelled on the new prospects of its development.
Thus, the Parties discussed probable creation of the free trade zone between the EU and Ukraine, and a new agreement that is to be considered by the European Parliament. The President of the European Parliament deems necessary to give incentives to Ukraine for implementation of democratic processes that bring our State closer to the European Union.
A.Yatseniuk qualified the European Parliament as "the most democratic institution". He also highly appreciated personal contribution of the President of the European Parliament to the development of democratic processes.
A.Yatseniuk stated that the Parties will proceed with inter-parliamentary cooperation between the EU and Ukraine within the parliamentary committees.
The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine invited the President of the European Parliament to visit Ukraine in the nearest time.
