The Environmental Policy, Nature Management and Overcoming the Chornobyl Disaster Aftermath Committee recommends that Parliament adopts, as a basis for further deliberations, the Bill on amendments to the Law on Protection of the Population from Ionized Radiation

The Bill (Reg. No.1347) proposes to introduce a new clause to the current Law, setting out the authorities of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with regard to protection of Man from ionized radiation.

The Bill envisages that The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is charged with authorities to establish a State Policy framework and Legal framework for the regulation of affairs within the areas of protection of the population from Ionized Radiation, adopt basic individual radiation exposure levels for the population and personnel at the operating sites; establish the intervention (action) levels at radiation accidents; establish the boundaries and legal regime of radiation polluted areas, etc.

It was noted at the meeting that The Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Emergencies and Protection of the Population from the Chornobyl Disaster Aftermath, National Commission for Radiation Protection of the Population of Ukraine, uphold this Bill in its entirety, with comments that can be taken into account during elaboration on this Bill for its Second Reading.
