The Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement recommends that the Parliament adopts as a Basis and in its Entirety the Bill on Amendments to the Criminal Procedural and Criminal Executive Codes of Ukraine (re Protection of the Rights of the Convicted in the Penitentiaries)

The Bill (Reg. No.2151) aims at more efficient protection of rights of the convicted in the penitentiaries, which will contribute to the positive image of Ukraine abroad.  

 

Inter alia, the Bill "defines maximum terms for keeping a convicted person under arrest as a preventive measure; alters constituents of the purpose of the Criminal Executive Code, namely, execution of punishment, creation of conditions for correction (reformation), and prevention of new crimes (the effective Code envisages only correction and re-socialization of a convicted person)".

 

The Bill also extends the authorities concerning public control.  

 

The Committee members upheld the Bill. They believe that its adoption will contribute to proper legal provision of the development of a democratic jural State.
