The Committee on Environmental Policy, Use of Natural Resources and Elimination of Consequences of Chornobyl Disaster recommends that the Parliament adopts as a Basis the Bill on Amendments to several Laws of Ukraine due to Adoption of the Law "On the State Biosafety System for Developing, Testing, Transportation and Usage of Genetically Modified Organisms"

The Bill (Reg. No.2436) introduces amendments to the following Laws: "On Protection of the Environment", "On Environmental Assessment", "On Flora", "On Fauna", "On Licensing Certain Types of Economic Activity".  

 

The Bill defines the authority of the specially authorized public management bodies in charge of environmental protection, use of natural resources, and biological and genetic safety. The Bill defines the methods for protecting the environment whilst dealing with bioengineering products. 

 

Furthermore, the Bill defines liability for violation of environmental requirements whilst dealing with genetically modified organisms. The Bill regards genetically modified organisms as the objects of environmental assessment. Genetic engineering in a closed system is subject to licensing.
