Attitude of Arseniy Yatseniuk, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, to

the Situation in the Parliament on Friday, 18 April 2008.

In the morning, Arseniy Yatseniuk, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, held a meeting with the Chairmen of all parliamentary Factions. However, neither opposition, nor coalition, came to an agreement. The coalition was ready to discuss the relevant Bills, but only after the discussion of the issue concerning Kharkiv mayor. Therefore, neither of the Bills would have gained a required number of votes, and would only hamper their consideration within the current session of The Verkhovna Rada.

However, within two sessions of the Sixth Convocation, The Verkhovna Rada held 44 plenary meetings, considered 208 issues and adopted 37 Laws. Ukrainian Parliament also ratified 15 agreements. These results testify ability of the People´s Deputies to consolidate at settlement of problems of national importance.

The next plenary meeting of The Verkhovna Rada is scheduled for 12 May 2008.
