The Committee on Taxation and Customs Policy recommends that the Parliament rejects the Bill on Payments for Extraction of Uranium Ore (re Allowances for Settlement of the Issues concerning Development of Territories, Indemnities to People who reside in the Area of Uranium Ore Extraction)

03 June 2008, 08:57

The Bill (Reg. No.2269) envisages new types of payments for the enterprises that extract and process uranium ores, namely as a portion of funds obtained from the sale of basic production sort (uranium), and funds invested in construction. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is to define the procedure for making the said payments.

The Bill envisages creation of a special fund of the State Budget of Ukraine to finance social and economic risk compensation for people that reside in the areas of uranium objects monitoring.

However, the Committee fails to uphold the motion concerning establishment of extra payments for the enterprises that extract and process uranium ores. The Committee deems reasonable to enhance current legislation on environmental taxation by extending the taxation base.
