The conference was attended by the People´s Deputies, the representatives of the High Administrative Court, the Central Election Commission, analytical centres, public and international organizations.
The attendants discussed key principles of reforming effective election legislation.
The participants of the conference emphasized that election by closed voting lists held in 2006-2007 has already exposed basic problems that emerged by application of a proportional closed-type system. Inter alia, the citizens bear no influence on the party´s list of candidates; the party´s voting list totally depends on the leaders of a party; the principles of selection of candidates to a party´s list fail to b transparent; political parties promote inner political corruption.
To eliminate the said problems, it is necessary to promote democratization of interior policy of the political parties, their development in all regions of Ukraine; to give incentives to competition within a party, since it will enhance rotation of politicians in power.
The Committee members resolved to create a working group to elaborate a final version of the Bill regarding election legislation till the end of the current session of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
