Andriy Parubiy asks EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee to support decision of Ukrainian Parliament not to recognize results of election to Russian Parliament

On Tuesday, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy, met with the members of the Ukraine-EU Parliamentary Association Committee headed by Chair of the Delegation to the Committee, Andrej Plenkovic.

Addressing the guests of the meeting, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada noted that interparliamentary meetings have considerable dynamics and systemic character, which is very important for Ukraine. He said that such cooperation helps to succeed at the interparliamentary level.

Andriy Parubiy emphasized that the major issue on the cooperation agenda is introduction of visa-free regime for Ukraine. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada expressed hope for positive decision on providing Ukraine with visa-free regime in early October and once again reminded that Ukraine had fulfilled all the requirements, which were much more complex for Ukraine than for any other country.

Andriy Parubiy informed that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine had approved the decision to disavow results of the election to the State Duma (the Parliament of the Russian Federation) and called on the attendees to support that decision.

Mr. Plenkovic expressed hope that the IV meeting of the Committee will trigger deeper interparliamentary cooperation. In speaking of the election to the Russian Parliament held in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine, he noted the importance of respective Verkhovna Rada's decision.
