Within the framework of a meeting with Chair of the Canadian-Ukrainian interparliamentary friendship group, Borys Wrzesnewskyj, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy, noted that Canada would further remain a key partner of Ukraine and expressed gratitude to Canada for its comprehensive support.

"It is very important for Ukraine that you, a person who comes from Ukraine, chair the friendship group at the Canadian Parliament," Parubiy told Mr. Wrzesnewskyj.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada expressed confidence that the Canadian Parliament would further take an active part in the bilateral relations. In particular, he noted the cooperation in free trade, liberalization of the visa regime and military exercises "where Canada showed high level of partnership and friendship."

"Your support for Ukraine is not only invaluably important, but also indicates high authority of the Ukrainian community in Canada," Parubiy said.

In turn Mr. Wrzesnewskyj said that the Ukrainian community in Canada is huge, well-organized and politically influential, which makes Ukraine confident of Canada's commitment to help it despite all changes in the governments.

He added that Canada openly protects independent Ukraine's interests at the international level. "The Canadian-Ukrainian friendship group at the Parliament of Canada is the largest one," Mr. Wrzesnewskyj emphasized and added that Canadian politicians understand that representatives of the Ukrainian Diaspora had contributed much in the development of Canada.

The Canadian politician noted he arrived in Ukraine to take part in the opening of the fifth session of the Verkhovna Rada of VIII convocation. Mr. Wrzesnewskyj also drew attention to the Andriy Parubiy's words said during the opening of the fifth session, namely "Ukraine is in war." The Canadian representative said Canada understands that the ongoing war in the east of Ukraine is the war for the country's being and territorial integrity. He added that Canada also understands that the people defending the country at the frontline are the shield for the whole liberal-democratic West, for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Thus, he said the West must find more effective opportunities to assist Ukraine in its fight.

Borys Wrzesnewskyj assured that Canada is a Ukraine's friend on the way to its absolute independence.
