At their meeting on February 22, the Committee members debriefed deputy director of a department of the Main Intelligence Directorate (MID) of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine Vadym Skibinskyi. The report presented by Mr. Skibinskyi gave detailed analysis of all stages of preparation and organization of occupation and annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

The spokesperson of the MID also gave details on the plans of the Russian Federation, which envisioned occupation of the eastern and southern parts of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, as well as the plans to reach Transnistria aimed at establishment of Novorossiya.

"Despite the strategic and other advantages, the Russian Federation failed to embody its plans in full in Ukraine. Except for the territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the efforts of the Russian Federation to provoke mass rallies in other eastern and southern regions of Ukraine failed. Those plans were unsuccessful. The reason for that failure were both successful actions of the Ukrainian side and certain miscounts of Russia, as well as powerful resistance by the Ukrainian citizens," the MID spokesperson said.

He also noted that Russia has not abandoned its plans. The Russian Federation continues attempts to destabilize the situation in Ukraine and prevent Ukraine from joining the European community.

The Chairperson of the Committee Serhii Pashynskyi provided additional materials given out to the participants in the meeting, in particular, the stenograph of the meeting of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) dated February 28, 2014. The transcript described the situation in the state in late February - March 2014 (in particular, it touched the annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea).

The Committee members discussed the report and the materials. Direct participants in those events also told the Committee members about what really happened those days in the country.

Serhii Pashynskyi noted that the promulgation of the materials was mainly aimed at open examination of the situation that happened two years ago. He noted that then the situation was extremely complicated. The transcript clearly showed the position of all participants in those events.

The Chairperson of the Committee did not rule out that in some time there would appear documents able to reveal all the enemy's plans.
