The State Building and Local Government Committee recommends that The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine calls an early election of some Village, Community and City Mayors, to be held on Sunday 16 March

The Committee Vice-Chairman, The People's Deputy Yu. Kliuchkovsky,   reported at the Meeting on the appeal from City Councils concerning the early Termination of Authorities of Village, Community and City Mayors.

 

The  Members noted that, pursuant to the provisions of Article 85 of The Constitution of Ukraine, and Clauses 14 and 15 of the Law  'On Election of Deputies of The Verkhovna Rada of The Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Local Councils, and  Village, Community and City Mayors´,  in the event that a Village, Community or City Mayor terminates its authorities, The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine should call  an  early election of the relevant Mayor on a Sunday, at least 70 days after the announcement day.

 

In view of the above, The Committee resolved to recommend that Parliament calls an early election for 16 March 2008, and committed its Vice-Chairman, Yu. Kliuchkovsky, to speak on this matter at a Plenary Meeting of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
