The Bill (Reg. No. 0010) envisages ratification of the Treaty between Ukraine and Georgia, signed in Tbilisi on 1 March 2007, regarding simplified procedure of acquiring and forfeiting citizenship by the citizens of Georgia, permanent residents of Ukraine, and citizens of Ukraine, permanent residents of Georgia, and prevention of non-citizenship or double citizenship.
At the meeting the Committee members emphasized that "the Treaty will enable to settle the issues concerning citizenship in complete accordance with regulations of national legislation regarding single citizenship in Ukraine". Pursuant to the Treaty, each Party acknowledges person as a citizen of only one State. Moreover, implementation of the Treaty will eliminate cases of non-citizenship or double citizenship regarding persons who will change the citizenship according to the said Treaty.
The People´s Deputies believe that ratification of the treaty by the Parliament will extend treaty and legal basis on citizenship issues in relations between Ukraine and Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and secure optimal procedure of change of citizenship by the persons who returned for permanent residence in Ukraine.
