Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman advocates boosting of revenues of local budgets of small towns and villages through insignificant increase of the fixed agricultural tax to UAH 200-220 per hectare a year.

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada said this at the Conciliatory Council meeting on Monday.

"The rural areas need particular attention and support. At the evening meeting of the workgroup yesterday I offered to preserve the fixed tax for agrarians and to somewhat increase it," Groysman said.

The Chairperson of the Ukrainian Parliament also informed that today, the average agrarian tax channeled for to village councils is UAH 130 per hectare a year. At the beginning of the financial decentralization the indicator was only UAH 6. "I believe this is enough to really help the village," Groysman said.

He said that the increase of the tax from UAH 130 to UAH 200-220 would boost revenues of local budgets. "The village will be able to maintain roads, clubs, lighting systems, kindergartens or good foodstuff supplies. Why cannot we do so? Let's support the countryside, that is the budget," he noted.

Therefore, the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada called on the people's deputies to unite around this idea and support it. "It is very important to take respective term in account. I believe that the Ukrainian Parliament can do that in its majority. Then [if the decision is passed] we will considerably support the rural areas," Groysman said.
