Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman, welcoming on Tuesday President of Poland Andrzej Duda, said that "this visit will give an impetus to the development of our relations, and we will be able to further deepen parliamentary component of our bilateral relations as well." He thanked the President of Poland for supporting Ukraine in its European aspirations, for support on the path of reforms, especially in carrying out decentralization and local self-government reform. "We welcome in Ukraine the President of a friendly State, which is very important in our relations," he said.
In turn Mr. President said that Ukraine is a strategic partner of Poland, and all the events taking place in Ukraine, "can not influence us." Polish people, according to Duda’s words, appreciate the striving of the Ukrainian people for their independence. He stressed that Poland supports reforms in Ukraine, in particular, changes in the judiciary, and decentralization reform. "We are ready to share our experience - both positive and negative - in these transformations," he said. He emphasized that "in this process the Parliament plays an important part as the road of reforms in the country lies through the Parliament," and declared openness and willingness to cooperate.
The parties called for the creation of a platform for high-quality dialogue, including on culture, science and complex issues of the historic past. In this context Groysman stressed that the settlement of "sensitive issues is possible through the dialogue" and assured that he will personally contribute to creation of the conditions for such a dialogue.
Groysman informed of the steps that the Ukrainian Parliament has already made to make transformations in Ukraine. "The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is a Parliament of young democracy," said Groysman, underlining that "in difficult conditions our Parliament demonstrates the ability to approve decisions important for the country, thus, they approved the documents on boosting the defense capacity of Ukraine, canceled the neutral status, adopted documents aimed at strengthening of financial stability and a set of documents that will contribute to the abolition of the visa regime for Ukrainians." "We formed a set of legislation to fight corruption, settled the issue of starting a process of large-scale decentralization and adopted a new law on public service, are making the first steps in deoligarchization,” the Chairperson of the Parliament said. “We are on the verge of passing the laws concerning the judiciary reform, and corresponding amendments to the Constitution," he said and expressed confidence that "Ukraine will fulfill its plans."
Mr. Duda noted that he looks at the reforms started in Ukraine with respect, because he understands their complexity and peculiarities of the task. "Such reforms often come across the resistance, we are ready to support Ukraine in a broad context and pass the experience in many aspects," said Mr. President.
The sides expressed hope that the Ukrainian and Polish Parliaments will be good partners in the development of bilateral relations between our countries.
