Groysman: Parliament must legislate transparency and openness of privatization

Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman notes the importance of legislating comprehensive transparent process of privatization.

Taking floor at the 17th meeting of the National Reforms Council dedicated to state property management on Monday, Groysman called for elaboration of the draft laws to be eyed "in the frames of the creation of mechanisms of effective privatization."

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada said there is "considerable distrust" in the process of privatization itself. He said that all the speculations about the privatization entail negative response: "they say: someone wants to steal something," and that becomes a topic of speculations among unprincipled politicians.

At that Groysman noted that ineffective use of state property is a source of corruption and emergence of shadow schemes. Thus, he said the issues of openness and publicity of privatization is extremely important. He noted that the Parliament should elaborate a set of draft laws "to eliminate any doubt" concerning transparency of this process.

According to the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada, to consider "the privatization" issues at the session hall, respective topic-based day would be set, and decisions touching the procedure of public privatization would be taken. Groysman noted that the Parliament had potential to approve these draft laws.

Groysman also pointed out the importance of attraction of representatives of the civil society to elaboration and discussion of respective draft laws "to have the support of the society."
