Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oksana Syroyid has taken part in the conference entitled "Constitutional reform in Ukraine: achievements and prospects," which was organized by the Council of Europe.
Commenting on the draft amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine concerning justice, Oksana Syroyid noted that the offered amendments should be considered from the point of view of two elements: introduction of the mechanism preventing violations and introduction of opportunities to improve the system of justice: "The draft amendments envision a number of preventing measures. First of all that is the elimination of political pressure of the Verkhovna Rada on judges and the minimization of political influence of the President. Besides, the liquidation of the prosecutor's office as a repressive system will prevent from restoration of the punitive soviet machine."
According to Syroyid, the offered amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine open opportunities to renew the judiciary and reload the judicial system.
Oksana Syroyid also noted the importance of long-term planning during elaboration of constitutional amendments: "Working on the amendments to the Constitution, we have to think about at least two-three following generations."
