The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine continues seeking the required number of votes to finally adopt the amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine touching the decentralization.

"Today we are having a dialogue inside the Ukrainian Parliament to find more than 300 votes for the constitutional amendments," Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman told the press in Kharkiv on Monday.

Asked about possibility to amend respective draft law at the moment, Groysman noted that "any interference in the draft amendments might entail a change in the terms of adoption" of the draft law. "It may suspend the settlement of the issue for years," he added, having said that no amendments to the draft law were on the agenda.

"Now we are focusing on adoption of the constitutional amendments along with a set of laws at the session hall," the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada said. He also added that voting for the final adoption of the constitutional amendments "is a responsibility of all political forces at the Ukrainian Parliament." "I hope that all the political forces will find an opportunity to unite around the European amendments to the Constitution, and Ukraine will obtain full local self-government. That is a revolutionary decision able to make Ukraine successful," he said.

Asked about the date of consideration of respective draft law at the session hall, Groysman said "the sooner the better."

At the same time, he said "these constitutional amendments do not contain any threat for Ukraine. Instead they are the key to success." "The old system is resisting and does not want any changes, however, sooner or later the changes will be made," the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada said.
