Local self-government bodies have to become the most effective link in the system of government in the state and restore the trust of our people.

Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman said that at the meeting with representatives of unified territorial communities, local self-government bodies, executive authorities of the Khmelnytskyi region and non-government organizations on Friday.

Groysman noted that voluntary unification of communities and the first steps in financial decentralization would facilitate successful development of local self-government and settlement of actual problems. He also noted that the decentralization of power is the formula of successful sector reforms. "effective local self-government is exactly the middle between the European future of Ukraine and degraded soviet system of governing," the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada said.

Groysman gave the details of the decentralization constitutional amendments, having noted that their final adoption would allow constitutional enshrinement fundamentals of local self-government and make democratic changes inevitable.

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada has called on the attendees of the meeting to unite for the sake of the country and do their best to restore people's trust in the authorities. "The issue of transfer of the power to the local level is very important in the context of European choice of Ukraine," he said.

"I will fight for this reform," Groysman added. He also noted that he was "ready to work with every region, every district, every community, with executive bodies" to elaborate new steps required in this field.
