Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman has noted the necessity for adoption of the Election Code of Ukraine. "We need the Election Code that would invalidate any opportunity to change the election system on the eve of every regular elections," Groysman told the press in Ivano-Frankivsk on Wednesday.
Asked about expediency of two-round voting at city and town mayoral elections, Groysman said "the election law is now imperfect but the election in two rounds is important as such procedure allows electing real leaders at territorial communities."
He explained that sometimes happens so that a person receiving more than 20% occupies a mayoral post. "But to make real changes one should have real trust. The trust of people is worth more than 50% of votes," Groysman said.
According to the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada, new Election Code will be the document able to make order in the election legislation. "I believe that is a remarkable feature of a democratic society," Groysman said.
In the frames of his working visit to Ivano-Frankivsk, Groysman had a meeting with representatives of local self-government and executive bodies of Ivano-Frankivsk region. The meeting was dedicated to discussion of current problems of decentralization of power. He also studied the work of the administrative services center daily visited by 500-1,000 people. The establishment has worked in the regional center for already five years and serviced both individuals and legal entities. The work of the center is computerized — visitors can register through the Internet.
