"The local election in Ukraine was held in a quality way and confirmed the movement of the state towards democratic reformation," Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman said at the meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Ukraine Isabelle Dumont.
The Ambassador congratulated the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada on holding of local election.
The head of the Ukrainian Parliament noted that the last election confirmed inalterability of reforms and democratic choice of the Ukrainian citizens. He also added that the election in Mariupol and Krasnoarmiisk would have to be held.
Commenting on the situation in the east of Ukraine Groysman said that Ukraine did its best in particular, at the diplomatic level, to peacefully settle the situation. Asked by the Ambassador to explain the aspects of the election in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, Groysman explained: "It is possible to hold the election there. However, first the weapons should be withdrawn, foreign troops should be taken away from Ukraine to let people vote. We are interested in holding democratic election."
The Parties also discussed the course of decentralization reform in Ukraine. The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada expressed confidence that "the decentralization is a key to state's success, where there is responsibility and initiative at the local level." At the same time, he stressed the necessity for large-scale informing Ukrainian citizens about the essence of the decentralization to allow each and every one to understand that creation of quality mechanism of state management facilitates creation of quality life of every person in our state.
Ambassador Isabelle Dumont assured of full France's support of Ukraine in this process as in her words France had gained unique experience in combination of centralization and decentralization in state management. "You can count on our support and assistance in the issues of informing the population about all aspects of the decentralization," the Ambassador said adding that the French embassy was preparing a number of public events in Ukraine to exchange respective experience and raise the level of citizens' awareness.
The Parties also noted high level of Ukrainian-French interstate dialogue, where interparliamentary relations have considerable prospects of development including the ones in the deepening of relations between Ukraine and the EU.
